Fr. Dave's Take on It... 1/20/19
A newly married man asked his wife, “Honey, would you have married me if my father hadn’t left me a fortune?” “Sweetheart,” the woman warmly replied, “I would have married you no matter who left you a fortune.”
It’s hard to know if there was any fortune exchanged between the bride and groom at the wedding at Cana, but undoubtedly there was some kind of dowry. Gifting at weddings can be problematic for all of us, but to celebrate the giving of each spouse to one another by gifting them ourselves affirms the gift of love that they share. To gift them with our support and friendship as time goes on is the promise we give when we sign the card.
Let us be generous in this new year, not only with any material wealth we may have, but with ourselves, our willingness to help, and with our compassion and understanding. Let us be joyful in our giving, enriching the lives of others with grace and goodness. To those who are getting married this year, special blessings to all of you, and may you find great fortune in the gift of love that you share!
Love and blessings,
